I was impressed

I'd never read (or heard of) this author before, and I have to admit I was overjoyed with her work. It reminded me of my childhood and even though it is an LDS character, it didn't seem like a forced attempt to tell the world about a particular religion... it just seemed like the character was LDS. I liked that. I liked the characters and the story and would love to read more of this authors books in the future.

Great book for LDS youth

I would love to get this book to all the Beehives I teach!

That said, obviously this is an LDS novel about how your friends can influence your decisions. And the temptation to do things that you wouldn't normally do, simply because you are lonely.

It isn't pivotal to the plot, but it took me about 1/2 the book to realize that the story takes place in Canada, which, once I figured that out a great many things about the book started to make sense.

The main character was engaging, and I was able to understand her struggles and to sympathize with her. I really liked the relationship between her and her brother. It is so refreshing to see healthy relationships between teenage siblings.
There are some other great characters but I especially liked the older brother's friend. I literally melted when I found out why he called her Parakeet!

The only thing I have against this book is how it seems to promote separating the LDS kids from the mainstream kids. Really? I am completely dumbfounded by that premise in the book. I am LDS and found it unrealistic, completely against what our religion teaches, and a lot snobbish. FYI, You can be friends with non-LDS kids and still make great decisions. It does, however, illustrate the point that it is easier to make good decisions when you surround yourself with other people who share your values.

I am curious to know what happened to her,her LDS friends and her non-LDS friends. I looking forward to reading the next two books in the series.

Overall, I would highly recommend this sweet little book.

Adorable!

I picked up this book on a whim, and I am so glad that I did! This was a delightful story, and one that I am going to enthusiastically share with my daughter (and recommend to any young women!).

This book features a realistic heroine caught between what she knows is Heavenly Father's plan, and the world's views on what is considered "teen love." It is clean, has many teachable moments, and does well with honoring character and virtue- all without coming off as preachy.

This book is written through the eyes of a young woman who is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints- however, one does not need to be a member of the Church to appreciate this book's messages about being true to yourself, your values, your beliefs, your faith, and your future happiness.

Excellent book. I look forward to more from this author.

I STEPPED OUT OF MY BOX AND I LOVED IT!

I stumbled upon this book in an attempt to broaden my horizons and step out of the routine romance genre I usually read. I'm so glad I chose this book! It's a quick read jam packed full of adventure. I loved the relationship of Alex and the feisty, tenacious Hayley. The innocent flirty banter between the two made Alex seem so human, albeit he was a guardian angel. This is a totally different spin on the phrase 'soul mate' and different meaning to the accustomed term, guardian angel. I smiled as I got to know Alex. I had this picture of a John Travolta-esque character from the film Michael. Sexy, with a quirky sense of humor. The writer vividly described the battle and action scenes so well that I felt like I was there hiding behind a building watching. I love a book that makes me connect with the characters and feel what they are feeling. Of course, the nefarious Marli added lots of action to the story. The battle was epic. If you're looking for a fast paced page turner which centers on good an evil I highly suggest this book. I'm so glad I stepped out of my box and grabbed it! Terry Reid is an author you need to put on your TBR list. Thanks Terry for a totally enjoyable read that I won't forget!

So different!

Alex, a Guardian Angel watches over a girl called Hayley, but they are more than just room mates. They are soul mates. Their bond is portrayed beautifully as is their love for each other. Together they take on demons and fallen angels, until their world is turned up side down in an epic battle. Light angels face off with dark angels in a bid to keep Hayley save.
This book has it all and is so different from any angel vs. demon books out there. It's well written and the battle scenes are executed perfectly. The characters are realistic regardless of their celestial nature. Some events in the book however, was not realistic, but in the end this is a work of fiction and should be accepted as that. I highly recommend this book. Strap in for a gripping read!!!

Crashing Down to Earth centers around the age-old struggle between angels and demons taking place right here on earth. In this world, those who the guardians protect are actually a part of them, taken from their own souls, which creates an interesting paradigm and the central focus of the action. The story follows Alex, who is sworn to protect Hayley, but now faces an even greater challenge that threatens mankind. Interesting story line with well-developed characters, I recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick, fun read!

About the Author

As the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, Tim Keller started his congregation with a few dozen people. Highlights of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark

King's Cross is a study of the Gospel of Mark designed for both followers of Christ and would-be followers of Christ. Tim Keller's expertise is that he is always able to take a passage of Scripture and show how it's all about Jesus. The Bible is not about us, but always finds its purpose in every story in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This work is not an exhaustive study of the Gospel of Mark, rather it highlights the two primary themes of Mark: Chapters 1-8 - Christ the King - highlighting His teachings, miracles, and authority as God ; and Chapters 9-16 - Christ the Servant - highlighting His sufferings that culminate in His death on the cross.

Keller throughout this book manages to weave in and out how Jesus is the answer to all of the major questions, needs, and realities of life. This book is an excellent reminder for the Christian that all of life only makes sense with Jesus at the center of it. For the non-believer Keller makes a cogent case for the necessity of Christ in his or her life. King's Cross would be an excellent gift to give to college students, co-workers, friends, acquaintances, and family members who are unfamiliar with the main story lines of the Bible.

The gospel in the life of Jesus is presented clearly, articulately, and compellingly in this concise presentation of Mark's Gospel. The Gospel of Mark gives more than just information about Jesus. It is the account of the person that every human being longs for. We all desperately need Jesus and Keller brilliantly shows us why. One cannot read this book without desiring to have a deeper connection with the Triune God through a personal and intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

A masterpiece which concisely explains the Christian faith and THE CROSS as its foundation...

I was absolutely thrilled with this audiobook....There have been a very few audiobooks that I have rushed to listen to, but this was indeed one of them. I enjoyed John Stott's "The Cross of Christ" but that requires scholarship and a degree of Christian maturity, but "King's Cross" is an audiobook that can be absorbed and appreciated by even the most unfamiliar with the Christian faith as the author guides the listener through one of the gospels, The Gospel of Mark, which is the shortest of the gospels (gospels are the 4 books that detail the life of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe to be the Savior, Messiah, The Anointed One, and Promised Redeemer to The Jewish People). I just passed this onto an assistant priest in my churhc with just one or two remarks that "it communicates about the Anglican Church" worldwide (of which I am a member) and it speaks of how the center of my particular denominational branch of The (catholic) Church has shifted to Africa and South America!?!! Timothy Keller's ability to tie so many threads together in describing the life of Jesus and the Church within the Christian historical context is akin to that of a master weaver who ultimately produces a priceless and magnificent-looking rug!!! The only other comment that I made in passing it on for encouragement and illustration of how excited I was that I believe him to be akin to a present-day C.S. Lewis (who by the way was Anglican as well!!), although Timothy Keller is a member of the Presbyterian denomination. There are some audiobooks that I want to listen to again, and I think that this is one of them....of couse after my pastor finishes it! Shalom!

I didn't expect to like it this much

This book was recommended in a women's bible study group, and it seemed stuffy. However, when I started reading it, it really held my interest. I would recommend it for those wanting to delve more deeply into Mark's gospel, or for others who just want an engaging read.

E. B. Sledge's "With the Old Breed" is by common consent one of the finest -- if not the finest -- account of the life of a combat infantryman in World War II. At Pelieu and Okinawa, Sledge was one of only 10 men in his Marine company of 240 to escape being wounded or killed. "China Marine" is the follow-up to "With the Old Breed," a lesser work but one that tells of what happened to Sledge after the war.

With Sledge's experience, one would have thought that he would have been among the first among the military to be demobilized after the end of the war with Japan -- but no, he and his colleagues were sent to China to disarm the Japanese soldiers there and to maintain order in several northern Chinese cities. This is Sledge's account of the six months he spent in China. His view is that of a Private First Class -- but an educated and sophisticated PFC, the son of a medical doctor from Mobile, Alabama, and an outstanding writer. He delighted in Peking, fresh food, a clean bunk, light duties, and friendship with the sophisticated Soong family -- but the danger from attack by communist armies was always there.

Sledge goes on to tell of the trauma of his discharge from the Marines and homecoming to Mobile and, briefly, his long years of struggle with what we call today Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It's a small book, only 160 pages, and an interesting, beautifully written, account of the decompression of a combat soldier and his return home.

Sledge died in 2001 but he was often quoted in Ken Burn's recent PBS series on World War II. Sledge is a true American hero.

China Marine: An Infantryman's Life After World War II is the powerful World War II memoir of E. B. Sledge and the sequel to his "With The Old Breed: At Peleliu And Okinawa". Sledge is a veteran of the physical and psychological scars of war, and this former Marine narrates the end of the old China and the rise of the Communist state through the eyes of someone who was there and saw it all. Sledge also presents the troubles of having to adapt to civilian life when the era of combat had faded. A moving true story of balancing life with the immense demands of nobly serving one's country, China Marine is a welcome and recommended contribution to the growing library of World War II era biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs.

The Title Says It All....Another Outstanding Book by Gene Sledge

China Marine Gene Sledge is an old friend although I've never met him. Any book by him is more than worth the few dollars it would take to own it. Most Americans have no knowledge of the fact that immediately following WW II 60,000 U. S. Marines were sent into North China. Their real purpose was to keep that area from falling into the hands of Mao Tse Tsung's 8th Route Army when the Japanese withdrew. We Marines were to fill the gap, and then turn this critical ground that contained much of the coal available in China. The Russians raised hell in the UN about the US not repatriating the Jap troops to their mainland. The US objective was to maintain them in place as additional insurance in order to keep Mao's ChiComs in Manchuria the caves of Yemen where they had been kept in check by the Japs during WW II. With pressure from the UN, the last of the Japs and Koreans were sent home by about June of 1946, leaving a dwindling number of Marines to literally "hold the fort." Essentially, this is what Sledge writes about. Imagine to have survived the battles for Peleliu and Okinawa only to be sent to North China where too many Marines were to be killed. Sledge, because of his time overseas, was able to leave China early in '46, as I recall. Those of us who had arrived late to the Pacific Theater during WW II would remain guarding the railroads and bridges that moved the coal. And so, you say: "How come I haven't read anything about this? It was not mentioned in my History classes in high school or college."

In my case I ended up in Tsingtao on the Shantung Peninsula, until 25Sep48 when I was commissioned a 2dLt and ordered stateside. Within a few months of my leaving China Chiang Kai Shek and his Kuomingtao withdrew to Formosa (Taiwan). My old regiment, the 5th Marines, oversaw the withdrawal of US and other civilians from Shanghai in early '49, and China was from that time under the control of Mao and the Chicoms. I and many other Marines saw a great deal of the latter when they intervened in the Korean War in November/December '50. We Marines were in and around the Chosin Reservoir. The US public knows little of the Korean War, but most at least connect the term Chosin Reservoir to that conflict.
