About the Author

Thomas Stearns Eliot was born in St Louis, Missouri, in 1888. He moved to England in 1914 and published his first book of poems in 1917. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948. Eliot died in 1965.

3-star collection of a 10-star poet's work

T. S. Eliot was arguably the greatest poet of the 20th century, but this collection is far from ideal. Alert readers will have already noticed the ominous qualifier "1909-1950" in the title; this book does *not* include the last two plays ("The Confidential Clerk" and "The Elder Statesman"), the last Ariel poem ("The Cultivation of Christmas Trees"), or the handful of Occasional Verses included in "Collected Poems 1909-1962." In addition, the typography in this volume is claustrophobic in the early poems. TSE's style is concentrated and intense, and virtually every collection of his work has the sense to begin each poem on a new page. This book, unfortunately, is the exception: it crams the poems together like classified ads.
The One True Eliot Collection was never published in the United States: "The Complete Poems and Plays of T. S. Eliot" (Faber and Faber, 1969 and later reprintings). It's worth looking on for a used copy since this book contains virtually all the published poems, all five plays, and even "Poems Published in Early Youth." In the meantime, U.S. readers are better off skipping the 1909-1950 volume. Get "Collected Poems 1909-1962" and buy the plays separately -- along with Old Possum's Book of You-Know-Whats, if you insist.

Prometheus of modern poetry

I became familiar with Eliot's work chronologically, learning something new at each step. "Prufrock" introduced me to modern poetical structure, "The Waste Land" showed me how literary allusion can enrich verse, "Ash-Wednesday" refreshed the world of religious poetry, and the supernal "Four Quartets" was for me a metaphysical insight of the greatest beauty.
Eliot is without a doubt the finest poet of the 20th century, perhaps the finest poet ever. His contributions to the poets who came after him, and to literature in general, are persistently evident. Eliot doesn't always succeed, and many of his poems seem trite and pretentious, but when he succeeds he hits dead on with poetry perfect in form, balance, and sound. There is the man here, the poet as reflected in his own work, but there is also common human experience through looking at history ("The Waste Land") and meditating on Man's relationship with the Divine and the eternal (Ariel Poems, and most of his output after 1928).
HOWEVER, this edition of his "collected works," COMPLETE POEMS AND PLAYS: 1909-1950 lacks several last poems which can be found in COLLECTED POEMS 1909-1962. I recommend that edition, as tt is worth missing out on Eliot's plays in order to have a truly complete collection of his sublime verse.

Pure unadulterated T.S. Eliot

A wonderful volume for those interested in T.S. Eliot. Be warned! Does not contain any annotations (other than Eliot's) or introductions. You get the texts and thats it. This is a wonderful investment, but just make sure you buy a Companion or a Study on Eliot to go along with it. Unless of course you have studied T.S. Eliot before and know what your doing.

About the Author
Beth Pateman is Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Health Education in the Institute for Teacher Education, College of Education, University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM). She received her H.S.D. and M.P.H. from Indiana University, with emphases in school and college health and public health education. Dr. Pateman has taught health education in grades K-8 and at the university level. Before coming to Hawaii, Dr. Pateman worked with the Division of Adolescent and School Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where she served as the CDC Project Officer for the first School Health Policies and Programs Study (SHPPS) in 1994. Dr. Pateman also taught in the School of Public Health, Emory University, and in the Department of Health Science Education, University of Florida. She received the Distinguished Service Award from the American School Health Association in 2000.

Cynthia Symons is a Professor of Health Education in the Department of Adult Counseling, Health, and Vocational Education at Kent State University. She received her D.Ed. and M.Ed. in Health Education from The Pennsylvania State University and earned her undergraduate degree from Lock Haven University, also in Pennsylvania. She has a Permanent Teaching Certificate in health and physical education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Grades K-12) and is a Certified Health Education Specialist. Dr. Symons received the Distinguished Service Award from the American School Health Association in 1994, and served as the President of that professional association in 2001-2002. She has received the Distinguished Teaching Award from Kent State University, and was recognized by the Commonwealth of Kentucky as an official “Kentucky Colonel” for collaborative health promotion initiatives on behalf of children and youth. Dr. Symons has taught health and physical education at grades 7-12, and returned to the ranks of public school teaching (grades K- 3 health education) during a sabbatical leave from her current position at Kent State University. In addition to publishing in refereed journals, and presenting at numerous state and national meetings, she collaborated in the development of "Children's Literature for Health Awareness" a resource text published by Scarecrow Press.

Susan K. Telljohann, HSD, CHES, is a Professor of Health Education at The University of Toledo. She received her doctoral degree in health sciences from Indiana University with an emphasis on school and college health education. Her experience in health education spans over 25 years, including health instruction from the junior high to the university level. She has done research and published over 60 articles on health education in professional journals, presented over 50 papers at professional conferences, and is the co-author of the HealthSmart K-12 curriculum and Teach and Reach health series published by ETR Associates. She served as the President of the American School Health Association from 2000-2001, was the Contributing Editor for the Teaching Ideas Column in the American Journal of Health Education, and has served on many professional health education committee throughout her professional career. She served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Health Education and is on the National Health Education Standards Revision Committee. She is the recipient of several honors and awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from both the American School Health Association and the American Association of Health Education, The Howe Award from the American School Health Association, The University of Toledo Outstanding Teacher Award, the Phi Delta Kappa Educator of the Year Award, the Patty Outstanding Alumni Award from Indiana University, and the Ohio Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Outstanding Young Professional Award.

As an overwhelmed student, I find this book very straighforward, informative, and easy to read. The chapters are short, logically organized, and include plenty of examples where appropriate. I can easily read one chapter in 15-20 minutes and get a good, solid understanding of it.

What can I say

Its an interesting book. Bought this book since it was recommended as reading material by the educational institution. I have to admit that it made stats look so easy, but I felt like I wasn't getting the full experience. Consider the experience gotten from this book as riding a bicycle with 2 extra wheels for support. It definitely helps with the fundamentals but seriously lacks in providing questions that challenge you on a hardcore level.

This ultimately led to the economic conflict that provided a major impetus for the resistance that culminated in the Revolution of 1952—the most important revolutionary event in Latin America since the Mexican Revolution of 1910. The emergence of another revolutionary movement in Bolivia early in the millennium under Evo Morales makes this study of its Cold War predecessor an illuminating and timely exploration of the recurrent tensions between U.S. efforts to establish and dominate a liberal capitalist world order and the counterefforts of Latin American countries like Bolivia to forge their own destinies in the shadow of the “colossus of the north.”

The Gory Details of Ebike Batteries -- What You Need to Know

There’s a lot of good information in this book, and it is geared for ebikes. It’s important to understand the basics of batteries if you want to build a bike and, in particular, a battery. The book discusses, rather briefly, why you can’t build an ebike battery with the spring type battery holders people use for AA cells. They are just not electrically efficient enough to work.

Ideally, people would learn the basics about the cells. This concerns proper charging and then matching cells and cell configuration to the discharge needs of a specific bike. If you know how to do this, the next hurdle is to assemble a pack from cells. I keep hoping there will be what I call the “insta-pack”. The Instapack is something you could use to assemble the pack without a spot welder. The author has a version of this, there is the BatteryBlocs system, and there is an Indian version similar to the Blocs system. I really hope something like this catches on. I don’t see the general public wanting to spot weld packs. This book lays out the dangers in minute detail. You could almost say this book discourages assembling a pack with a welder.

Ideally we will end up in a world where people can DIY an ebike battery. The first place to stop would be this book. I’m hoping people won’t need spot welders. If people could buy cells from reliable vendors, at good prices, and assemble them in a couple of hours, it would change the ebike world. DIY is the only way to go for a good ebike at a decent price. I’ve built three and they are very reliable. The problems I run into are the stresses of going quite a bit faster. You need suspensions and you need to get ergonomic bars. I’m not locked into a design. I change stuff all the time.

This is a serious book about ebikes. If you think you are interested in ebikes, buy this book. It will tell you what ebikes really are about, even if you never touch a spot welder. It’s a march of technology and the limited needs of an ebike match the cells that are out there. So ebikes are kind of the cutting edge, and the tech works. But it’s not simple and it’s worth understanding, just for the nuances of charging and life cycles of packs.

Technical information in a hands on easy to understand format

Wish I had this book to read years ago when I was trying to understand the lithium batteries in my ebike. I also carried this knowledge on to a solar system using lithium batteries. Micah explains the hard to grasp electrical and chemical nature of lithium batteries. And most important you can tell that Micah has the hands on expertise to back up what he is talking about so it is real world advice.
I have been reading up on lithium batteries for years and this book is filling in a lot of the gaps of knowledge that I missed.
Every book on a complex subject should be this easy to read and understand.

Finally, an easy to understand battery building guide. I'm sure that if you love to Google-everything like I do, you'll notice almost everything available on batteries is very intimidating and complicated to understand, and in most cases you'll have to look in more than one article to complete the necessary knowledge to even think on build something involve such (relatively) dangerous as battery.

Adequate but Free elsewhere

I thoroughly enjoy Vachel Lindsay's poetry. The meter is reminisant of Edgar Allen Poe's verse. The subject matter is that of turn of the century (18th -19th) century. The mores and folkways of the United States were not the same as they are now. Lindsay gives you a cutting edge view of a mid-West American of that period.

There is no interactive Table of Contents. That means that you must trudge through the book from front to back or you must hunt-and-peck for pearls.

I frequently buy a book for a dollar on Amazon because it includes something like an interactive Table of Contents which the free version from other sources does not. This version on Amazon does not have anything that other independently produced versions have. Therefore I do not recommend paying money for it here. Currently this collection of poems is free on Amazon. By all means, get it here. If Amazon starts to charge for it, look a little further.

poetry for a lifetime

Vachel Lindsay's poetry has always evoked a memory of the first two decades of the twentieth century before WWI wrecked civilisation as it was then known. Imagine a poet who wrote poetry with the intention of it being set to music rather than just being read. Lindsay was a truly unique individual with an amazing talent that is under-appreciated. There is no finer poetry set to music than "Gen. William Booth Enters into Heaven, in the Charles Ives composition performed by the Gregg Smith Singers. My grandmother (b. 1900 once saw Lindsay perform, and I think it was the highlight of her life. She still recalled his performance clearly the summer before she died at age 92. The Gregg Smith LP of Ives' choral music which included "Booth" was the only LP she owned that wasn't by the Carter Family or Flatt & Scruggs. That's a high recommendation for Lindsay.

Vainesman's work has included logos, corporate identities, promotional materials, collateral materials, signage, videos, books, CDs and interactive media. Diego serves as a Board Member of the Type Directors Club, teaches at Parsons School of Design and is the New York correspondent for tipoGr#193;fica, the leading typographic magazine in South America. He graduated from the Art Institute of Boston and holds a BFA in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design.

Bailey blushed, and I felt like I'd crossed some invisible line. The girl wasn't my daughter. She was Jack's daughter. I guess some topics were still off limits.

"Can...can I try it?"

Stunned silence. Had I just heard her right? She wanted to try a sip of my breast milk? My own baby wouldn't drink the stuff, why would my stepdaughter -- my adult stepdaughter -- want to? I glanced up at her, but her big, round, dark eyes were fixated on the towel covering my breasts.

"Seriously?"

She nodded, her dark hair bobbing. "I wasn't breastfed. I guess...I guess I always wondered what it tasted like." She shook herself, looked up and met my eyes. "I mean, if that's not too weird." She was really blushing now. "I...I'm sorry, I...."

"No," I said, wanting to reassure her more than wanting her to drink my breast milk. "No, I think it's natural to be curious." I smiled at her, trying to take some of the weirdness out of the situation. "Tell you what, go get me a glass."

Her eyes lit up. "Really?"

Interesting but lacking

The story was interesting and hot at times, but not very evenly so. I can't really put my finger on what didn't do it for me, but it was worth the read. If your into girl on girl and lactation it'll probably do it for you.
